People Against Rape

Founded in 1974, People Against Rape (PAR) opened its doors in September 1975, serving as one of the first rape crisis centers in South Carolina.

The organization offers free, confidential services to adult survivors of sexual assault in Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties. Other services include a 24-hour hotline, trauma-informed counseling, support groups and accompaniment to Sexual Assault Forensic Exams, law enforcement interactions and court proceedings.

The organization also expanded its education department to teach sexual assault prevention in high schools, colleges, medical facilities, churches, and other community locations.

Silent Tears awarded People Against Rape $35,000 to cover one month’s salaries in case of delayed reimbursements, and an additional $15,000 to help fund a development/communications person.
